Pradarantak Lauh is an Ayurvedic medicine in tablet or powder form. It is mainly used in the treatment of menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea etc.  This medicine is more commonly used in North Indian Ayurvedic practice. Lauha kalpas are defined as preparations of Lauha Bhasma as the main ingredient added to other drugs. Lauh Kapl are prepared by mixing the powder of other ingredients to Lauha Bhasma. It is mainly used in the treatment of menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea etc. This medicine is more commonly used in North Indian Ayurvedic practice. It contains heavy metal ingredients, hence should only be taken under medical supervision.

10 g fine powder of each of

  • Loha Bhasma – Bhasma prepared from Iron
  • Tamra Bhasma – Bhasma prepared from Copper
  • Shuddha Haratala – Purified and processed Orpiment (Arsenic tri sulphide)
  • Vanga Bhasma – Tin Calx
  • Abhraka Bhasma – Purified and processed Mica
  • Varatika Bhasma – Bhasma (Calx) of Cowries
  • Shunti – Ginger Rhizome – Zingiber officinalis
  • Maricha – Black pepper – Piper nigrum
  • Pippali – Long pepper fruit – Piper longum
  • Haritaki – Chebulic Myrobalan fruit rind – Terminalia chebula
  • Vibhitaki – Belliric Myrobalan fruit rind – Terminalia bellirica
  • Amalaki – Indian gooseberry fruit – Emblica officinalis Gaertn.
  • Eranda – Castor – Ricinus communis
  • Vidanga – False black pepper – Embelia ribes
  • Saindhava Lavana – Rock salt

Uses/ Indications of Pradarantak Lauh

  • It cures female disorders and anemia
  • Indicated in leucorrhoea, loss of appetite & problems associated with menstrual cycle.
  • Leucorrhoea associated with weakness, pain in lower abdomen, backache, headache and irritation.
  • It gives strength to uterus and ovary.
  • It gives relief in abnormal discharge from the vagina, low appetite, digestive impairment, pain in vagina, lower back and pelvis.
  • It contains Triphala (Amla + Harad + Baheda) and Trikatu (South + Kali Mirch + Pippali) due to which it is effective in digestive and respiratory disorders.
  • It can be used as a source of Iron since it contains Iron calx (Bhasma) as an ingredient.
  • It is used in the treatment of menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, leucorrhoea, low backache, lumbar spondylosis, dysmenorrhoea.
  • It is useful to relieve indigestion, anemia, asthma, cough.
  • It is nourishing in nature and improves strength and immunity.
  • Pradarantak Lauha is indicated in the treatment of a variety of diseases. Its chief indication is Prada.

Dosage of Pradarantak Lauh

Strengths: 250mg, 500mg

  • 250 mg – 500 mg once or twice a day before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor. It is usually administered along with sugar, honey, and ghee.
  • 1 to 2 tabs. With water or madhu. Twice or thrice a day.

Side Effects

  • Self-medication with this medicine may prove to be dangerous.
  • Accidental overdose in children may cause poisonous effects.
  • Take this medicine in precise dose and for a limited period of time, as advised by the doctor.
  • Over-dosage may cause side effects like a burning sensation in the stomach.
  • Pregnant ladies, lactating mothers, and children should take this medicine strictly under medical supervision.
