Ferrum Phosphoricum; Uses, Dosage, Side Effects

Ferrum Phosphoricum is made from a mineral compound which helps the body build strong blood cells and its most prominent symptom is a ‘lack of notable symptoms’. It gives strength and toughness to the circular walls of the blood vessels, especially the arteries, and helps with a lack of blood corpuscles as in anemia, and also as a first aid remedy for hemorrhages. Ferrum Phosphoricum is also a helpful remedy for inflammations, fatigue and weakness, low or mild fever, infections, inflammations, fatigue, lack of stamina, chronic conditions, congestion, and muscular strains.

Materia Medica of Ferrum Phosphoricum

  • Mind – Irritable; holds everything in contempt. Full of desires, for what they know not.
  • Head – Bones of skull feel crushed or bruised. Pain extends to teeth and root of the tongue.
  • Eyes – Inflamed, red. Pain through eyeballs. Profuse lachrymation. Cornea dim. Eyes tire from near vision. State of vision constantly changing. Spasm of accommodation from the irritable weakness of the ciliary muscle. Nausea from looking on moving objects.
  • Face – Blue rings around eyes. Periodical orbital neuralgia, with lachrymation, photophobia, and smarting eyelids.
  • Nose – Coryza, with stoppage of nose and nausea. Epistaxis.
  • Stomach – Tongue usually clean. Mouth, moist; much saliva. Constant nausea and vomiting, with pale, twitching of face. Vomits food, bile, blood, mucus. Stomach feels relaxed as if hanging down. Hiccough.
  • Abdomen – Amebic dysentery with tenesmus; while straining pain so great that it nauseates; little thirst. Cutting, clutching; worse, around the navel. Body rigid; stretched out stiff.
  • Stools – Pitch-like green as grass, like frothy molasses, with griping at the navel. Dysenteric, slimy.
  • Female – Uterine hæmorrhage, profuse, bright, gushing, with nausea. Vomiting during pregnancy. Pain from navel to the uterus. Menses too early and too profuse.
  • Respiratory – Dyspnœa; constant constriction in chest. Asthma. Yearly attacks of difficult shortness of breathing. Continued sneezing; coryza; a wheezing cough. A cough incessant and violent, with every breath. Chest seems full of phlegm but does not yield to coughing. Bubbling rales. A suffocative cough; the child becomes stiff, and blue in the face. Whooping-cough, with a nosebleed, and from the mouth. Bleeding from lungs, with nausea; feeling of constriction; rattling cough. Croup. Hæmoptysis from slightest exertion (Millef). Hoarseness, especially at end of a cold. Complete aphonia.
  • Fever – Intermittent fever, irregular cases, after Quinine. Slightest chill with much heat, nausea, vomiting, and dyspnœa. Relapses from improper diet.
  • Sleep – With eyes half open. Shocks in all limbs on going to sleep (Ign).
  • Extremities – Body stretched stiff, followed by spasmodic jerking of arms towards each other.
  • Skin – Pale, lax. Blue around eyes. Military rash.

Indications of Ferrum Phosphoricum

  • A cough – Helpful for painful, short, tickling cough. Hard, dry cough with a sore chest. Better at night
  • Diarrhea – Useful for diarrhea with fever, from infections.
  • Earache – Helpful for early stages of an earache. Ear feels stopped, pain, and throbbing. When Belladonna fails.
  • Fever – Illness has drained the color out of the child’s face. Keynote is a slow and gradual onset of illness. Opposite of Aconite’s rapid onset of illness. Early stages, no clear symptoms for any other remedy. Pale, easy flushing, rosy cheeks. Rapid, soft pulse. Restless. Keep on hand for high Fevers that do not respond to the remedy Belladonna.
  • Frozen Shoulder – Violent tearing pain in right shoulder and upper arm. Acute rheumatism of right deltoid, red, swollen, very sensitive. Rheumatism in wrist. Wrists ache with loss of power to grasp. Contracted fingers from acute rheumatism.
  • A headache – Helpful for head sore to touch with throbbing pain. Worse from excess sun, moving, cold.
  • Hemorrhage – Useful for bright bleeding from any orifice.
  • Nosebleeds – Helpful for nosebleeds with profuse, bright red blood. Clots easily.
  • Sleeplessness – Useful for restlessness and anxious dreams.
  • A sore Throat – Helpful for a sore throat in its early stages. Tonsils are red and swollen. Sore throat of singers and speakers. After operations on throat and nose. Also known as Ferrum Phosphoricum, Ferrum Phosphate.
  • Indicated for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with fever and inflammatory conditions, such as infections
  • Use at the first sign of infection, especially with children.
  • This tissue salt is indicated for conditions such as gingivitis, tonsillitis, epistaxis, fever, laryngitis, pharyngitis, gastritis, nephritis, anemia, bruises and disorders of iron metabolism.
  • Inflammatory conditions such as meningitis, pleuritis, peritonitis, inflammations of the oral mucous membrane, middle ear inflammations; menstrual colics and bleedings such as nosebleeds; diarrhea, summer diarrhea, vomiting; incontinence. In the therapy of anemic conditions and geriatric complaints.

The Dosage of Ferrum Phosphoricum

  • Adults: Dissolve 5 tablets in the mouth, 3 times daily.
    Children: Take two tablets three times daily or follow the recommendations of your healthcare practitioner.
  • Adult and children 2 years of age and older: Dissolve 5 pellets under the tongue 3 times a day until symptoms are relieved or as directed by a doctor.

  • Dosage: 4 tablets dissolved under the tongue 1 to 3 times a day or as directed by your health care practitioner, at least 10 minutes away from food. Children typically need ½ this dosage.
