Gandhak Rasayan uses/ Indications, Dosage, Side Effects

Gandhak Rasayan is a potent ayurvedic medicine which has a mineral base namely that of purified or detoxified sulfur. This is processed with herbal juice as the dominant ingredient. Gandhak Rasayan is quite a versatile medicine and has powerful antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial activity. It, therefore, has a broad-spectrum effect and can treat a plethora of ailments.

Benefits of Gandhak Rasayan uses

Relieves Burning Sensation

  • Gandhak Rasayan works wonders in health conditions where burning sensation is involved. Hence ailments and burning associated with urinary tract infections, hands, and feet burning, skin itching, burning of tongue etc can be effectively treated.

Treats Hives and Angioedema

  • Due to an allergic reaction, small red spots occur on the skin surface which causes itching and burning sensation. Gandhak Rasayan can come to rescue. However, it may not work on its own and need to be combined with Jasad Bhasma and Haridra Khand. For an allergic reaction that becomes worse, Giloy Satva, Moti Pishti, Praval Pishti can be added.

Scabies

  • Itching and rashes associated with scabies can be treated with Gandhak Rasayan. However, you also need topical application of neem oil and turmeric paste to treat the infection.

Acne and Pimples

  • Gandhak Rasayan has blood purifying properties. It removes blockages and halts the progression of secondary infections. Used along with Shankh bhasma and Pishti, Gandhak Rasayan helps in getting rid of acne and pimples.

Treats tooth and Gum Problems

  • Gandhak Rasayan is effective in treating Pyorrhea, painful gums and gum inflammations such as Gingivitis and Periodontitis.

Fights Respiratory Disorders

  • Gandhak Rasayan’s antibacterial properties help in easing breathing issues caused due to bacterial infections of respiratory system. This medicine also treats upper respiratory tract infections as well as Rhino-sinusities (discharge from nose).

How To ConsumAppropriate Dosage

  • Children up to 5 years: 250 mg per day
  • 5 – 12 years of age: 250 mg – 1 gram per day in divided doses
  • Adults: 1 – 3 grams in divided doses daily

Gandhak Rasayan Dosage

  • Traditional dose – 1 Masha – 1 gram
  • 1 – 3 grams, once or twice a day before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.

Dose based on age

  • Children up to 5 years of age: not more than 250 mg per day.
  • 5 – 12 years of age: 250 mg – 1 gram in divided doses per day.
  • Adults – 1 – 3 grams in divided doses per day.
  • This medicine can be safely taken for a period of upto 2- 6 months, based on your doctor’s advice.

Side Effects of Gandhak Rasayan uses

Consuming more than 2 gms of Gandhak Rasayan can cause side effects such as

  • Loose stool
  • Stools with abdominal cramping
  • Bloating
